This morning was a busy one for me! I met up with Marc DeWerth and delivered the newest addition to his family, Thorin, a 6 week old kitten who will be loved immensely by the DeWerth clan.
I then had to hightail it over to Hogback Ridge to meet up with my research partner Bob. We geared up and headed into the woods. We had planned on crossing the creek to get to the north side of the park but the water was too high since the recent rains and our log that we usually cross over on was jammed with tons of tree We attempted to find points all along the creek to cross to no avail.
We then decided to head to Hogback North.
We had been hiking for quite awhile when we came upon some barefoot tracks.
This was not a bear. We became more and more excited as we measured and took pics of what I wanted to be the “Hogback Trackway”. But something wasn’t right. The prints were only 11 inches and the stride didn’t seem long enough. We continued on and finally found the source of the prints. It was apparent that our Squatch was actually a runner wearing Vibram running shoes. What a disappointment but also a good teaching point. Always follow through on your research! We may not get the answers we want, but we learn what to look for!
